Cinco de Mayo Food & Fun

Hola!  Welcome to Pinning with Purpose.  I created this website to share some of the fun things I do with my family in hopes that it can help give you ideas to make memories with your own family.

This Cinco de Mayo I wanted to have a Mexican dinner.  We had burritos and chips & salsa.  I don't make spicy food often (because I'm a wimp), but the kids absolutely loved it.  For dessert I bought acoiris.  They were a marshmallow cookie with jam in the middle and coconut.  The kids LOVED them.

After dinner we watched The Book of Life and played with maracas.  It was a very low-key, low-cost, enjoyable Cinco de Mayo.

What are some of your favorite Hispanic foods?  Leave a comment.  I'd love to try some of them out!

Give Your Very Best - FHE Lesson

What is the best gift you have ever been given?  My favorite gifts are the little acts of kindness done by my husband and kids.  I have talked with my children about the joy of giving before, but I wanted to do a Family Home Evening (FHE) lesson that focused on giving your very best.

I set out some cupcakes, frosting, and decorative toppings.  I briefly explained that when we give gifts or service would should do it with a positive attitude and do our best work.

Each member of the family put their name inside a hat (Princess was excited to use her fuzzy, purple one).  I told everyone that we would each pull out a name.  We would then decorate a cupcake for the person whose name we drew.

As we decorate we should try to make it our very best work.

Look at the concentration on their faces.  They wanted to do a good job so badly.

The girls drew names for each other.  Here is Goofy giving Princess the cupcake she decorated.  I love how excited they were to give each other their creations.

Happy little face!

This was such a positive FHE lesson.  Everyone felt the spirit of giving their best - not to mention they got a cupcake to eat.

Easter Egg Dying with Friends

8 years ago I was dating the handsome guy on the right of this picture.  I invited him over to my house to dye Easter Eggs with my family.  When it was time for him to leave I walked him to the front door.  That night he kissed me for the first time.  So, dying Easter eggs will always be one of my favorite traditions.

This year we invited a couple of our best friends over to dye with us.  It's always more fun with friends!

My kids look forward to dying eggs every year as well.  I love Bud's face in this picture!  We use lots of different Easter egg dying techniques.  This year we stuck with traditional egg dying kits, using q-tips, and drawing with Sharpies and crayons.

While we dye eggs I like to have a couple of traditional treats available.  This year we had Robin Eggs.  Naturally, that led to Robin Egg Lipstick.  Can you see Goofy's blue lips?

Here's the end result of our egg dying this year.  Lot's of pretty, sparkly eggs.

Each year I do a Sharpie marker egg.  Here is this year's edition - the Easter Bunny.

What is your favorite Easter tradition?  Do you have a favorite way to dye Easter eggs?

Valentine's Dress Up Dinner

I spend a lot of time and energy doing things to bring my family together.  Sometimes it's silly little things.  Other times we have a day to remember.  This Valentine's Day was one of those days to remember.

When my kids woke up on Valentine's Day they found a note and some treats on the ground.  This is what the note said...

When 4:00 rolled around I did the girls' hair.  They love being pampered.  After their hair was done I sent them to their room to wait for their dates.

Daddy came to the girls' door all dressed up in his suit.  He gave them each some pink roses.  Look at those faces!  They were ecstatic!

I gave my handsome little date a stuffed puppy.

They came down the "grand staircase" for dinner at Dastrup Delicasies.

Mommy and daddy were the waitress/waiter.  We gave them pink waffles topped with blueberries and whipped cream.

So delicious!

We escorted our dates to the Blissful Ballroom.  The kids loved the lights I strung across the ceiling.

Daddy danced with each girl.

They had a great time talking and dancing.

Pure joy!  The feeling of love in our home this Valentine's Day was palpable.  I will never forget it.

Just a couple more pictures:

My forever Valentine.
